Revising Short Stories and Working on a Novel
I am doing some hard things this semester. I’m finally starting to pivot out of the creative safe-space of MFA writing. I’m revising my short stories (and collection) to send out. I’m also working on my first novel.
What I Did This Summer
After three years of invigorating and wonderful study, I completed my MFA in May! I’m really proud of the progress I’ve made as a writer, and ever-grateful to my thesis readers, Dolen Perkins-Valdez and Rachel Louise Snyder, for encouraging me and challenging me in all the right ways (my thesis won the Myra Sklarew Award for prose).
I spent six glorious, challenging weeks among 18 of the best writers and humans I’ve ever met at Clarion 2019 in San Diego. I wrote some stories I’m really proud of and got to read some AMAZING fiction. I can’t wait to see these stories out in the world.
